Through separate interviews, they recount the details of a disturbing ritualistic killing that was believed to have been solved years earlier. As they revisit the case, long-buried secrets, personal conflicts, and unresolved questions begin to resurface. The investigation gradually reveals new leads, forcing both men to confront their past and re-examine what really happened. As the story shifts between 1995 and 2012, the two timelines eventually collide, exposing a deeper conspiracy and blurring the line between justice and corruption. In the process, Cohle and Hart discover that evil can exist not only among criminals but also within those sworn to uphold the law.
