Kesar Karamjit

Biography

Kesar Karamjit was born in November 1956 in the village of Dhanaula, District Barnala, Punjab, to Shri Sant Renu and Smt. Tej Kaur. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he inherited a deep appreciation for literature and tradition from his family. He pursued higher education with dedication, completing an M.Sc. in Zoology, an M.A. in Punjabi, and a B.Ed. His academic achievements reflect both his scientific curiosity and his passion for language and culture.

Karamjit served as a Lecturer in Biology with the Punjab School Education Department, where he inspired generations of students with his knowledge and commitment to education. After a distinguished career, he retired from teaching and later settled permanently in Australia, continuing to engage with the Punjabi literary community abroad.

His literary journey reflects both heritage and personal dedication. His first ghazal collection, Din Dhale, was published in 2023, and next “Nadiye Tera Ki Sirnawan”  marking a significant milestone in his creative path. Prior to this, his poetry and writings appeared in various magazines and journals, earning him recognition among readers and fellow poets. His work often blends personal reflection with cultural themes, resonating with both traditional and modern audiences. His Bookes are available online on multiple Platforms.

Poetry runs in his lineage. His father, the late Shri Sant Renu (“Ren”), who worked in the Punjab Health Department as a vaid (traditional physician), was also a respected Punjabi poet. Sant Renu’s poetry collection Till Phull was published in 1956, the same year Kesar was born. This legacy provided Karamjit with a foundation, but his own voice emerged through practice, experience, and hard work, proving that his artistry is not only inherited but also self‑cultivated.

Karamjit continues to refine his craft as a student of the Shri Krishan Bhanot Ghazal School, where he studies the intricacies of ghazal writing. His dedication to learning and mentorship reflects his belief that poetry is a lifelong journey of growth. His ghazals often explore themes of time, memory, longing, and cultural identity. With a balance of lyrical beauty and philosophical depth, his work bridges the traditional Punjabi poetic heritage with contemporary sensibilities.

Now residing in Australia, Karamjit remains deeply connected to his Punjabi roots. He participates in literary gatherings, cultural events, and community activities, contributing to the preservation and celebration of Punjabi literature abroad. His presence in the diaspora highlights the global reach of Punjabi poetry and its ability to connect communities across continents.
