Abhilash Joshiy

Biography

Abhilash Joshiy is an Indian film director who primarily works in the Malayalam film industry. He is the son of renowned Malayalam filmmaker Joshiy, who is known for directing numerous successful films. Abhilash developed an interest in cinema at an early age and gradually built his filmmaking career through advertising, assistant direction and creative work before making his feature-film directorial debut.

Early Life and Education

Abhilash Joshiy was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He is the son of veteran director Joshiy and Sindhu. He completed his schooling at Choice School in Tripunithura.

He later pursued studies in filmmaking and attended the Mindscreen Film Institute in Chennai, where he studied cinematography. His educational background and practical experience helped him develop an understanding of visual storytelling, camera techniques and film production.

Career Journey

Abhilash began his professional journey in the advertising industry. He worked as an assistant director with filmmaker V. K. Prakash on advertising projects before directing commercials for several well-known brands, including Sunfeast, MTR and General Air Conditioners.

He spent approximately three to four years working in advertising, gaining experience in visual presentation, storytelling and directing. He also worked alongside his father, Joshiy, and assisted him on film projects. Additionally, he gained experience working with Tamil filmmaker Suseenthiran.

Before becoming an independent director, Abhilash worked as a creative director on his father's Malayalam films, including Porinju Mariyam Jose (2019) and Paappan (2022). These experiences helped him understand different aspects of filmmaking, including performances, screenplay development and production.
