Abhishek Varman is an Indian film director and screenwriter known for his visually rich storytelling and romantic dramas. He is the son of veteran art director R. Verman, who worked on the art direction of more than 350 Hindi films and was known for his creativity and design sensibility.

 

Abhishek studied architecture before pursuing a career in cinema. His education in design and structure later influenced his filmmaking style, known for its detailed visuals and artistic frames. He began his film career by working as an assistant director on major Bollywood films such as Jodhaa Akbar and My Name Is Khan, where he honed his craft under established filmmakers.

 

 

Career as Director and Writer

Abhishek Varman made his directorial debut with “2 States” (2014), based on Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel 2 States: The Story of My Marriage. The film starred Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and was a major commercial and critical success. It earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director, establishing him as a talented new voice in mainstream Bollywood cinema.

 

 

His second film, “Kalank” (2019), was a large-scale period romantic drama featuring an ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapur.
