Biography

Adina Porter is an American actress born on March 13, 1971, in New York City. Raised in the South Bronx, she developed an interest in acting at an early age and studied at the High School of Performing Arts before graduating from SUNY Purchase. She began her professional career in theater and later expanded into film and television.

 

Porter made her Broadway debut in The Women in 2001. She also earned an Obie Award for her performance in the play Venus, establishing herself as a respected stage performer.

She became widely recognized for playing Lettie Mae Thornton in HBO's True Blood (2008–2014). She subsequently appeared as Kendra James in The Newsroom and Indra in the science-fiction series The 100.

 

Porter is particularly known for her work in American Horror Story, where she portrayed several different characters, including Lee Harris, Beverly Hope, Dinah Stevens, and Chief Burleson. Her performance as Beverly Hope in American Horror Story: Cult earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

 

Her other notable credits include The Leftovers, Underground, Ray Donovan, The Morning Show, Outer Banks, The Changeling, and The Power. In Paper Girls (2022), she played Prioress, a high-ranking member of the Old Watch involved in the series' time-travel conflict.

 

Porter's film credits include The Peacemaker, Gia, The Social Network, About Sunny, The Last Word, and Miss Virginia. With a career spanning theater, film, and television, she is recognized for her versatility and for portraying complex characters across drama, science fiction, and horror.
