Aditya Dhar
Biography
Aditya Dhar was born on March 12, 1983, in New Delhi, India. He is a Kashmiri Pandit by heritage. Before entering the film industry, Dhar worked as a radio jockey and was associated with the Delhi Music Theatre for nearly two decades. He moved to Mumbai in 2006 to pursue a career in filmmaking.
Career Highlights
Dhar began his career in Bollywood as a lyricist, contributing to films such as Kabul Express (2006), Haal-e-Dil (2008), and Daddy Cool (2009). He later transitioned into screenwriting, working on films like Aakrosh (2010) and Tezz (2012).
In 2019, Dhar made his directorial debut with the highly successful film Uri: The Surgical Strike, based on the 2016 Uri attack. The film starred Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, and Paresh Rawal, and was produced by Ronnie Screwvala under the RSVP Movies banner. It grossed over ₹3.5 billion (approximately $41 million) worldwide and earned Dhar the National Film Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director.
Dhar launched his own production company, B62 Studios, in 2021. Under this banner, he co-produced Article 370 (2024), a political action thriller starring his wife, Yami Gautam, and Priyamani. He is also working on his next film, Dhurandhar, an espionage thriller featuring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, slated for release on December 5, 2025.
Personal Life
Aditya Dhar married actress Yami Gautam on June 4, 2021. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Vedavid Dhar, on May 10, 2024.
