Biography
Afzal Khan, better known by his screen name Jan Rambo, was born in Havelian, Abbottabad, Pakistan. He is married to fellow Lollywood actress Sahiba Afzal, the daughter of veteran film actress Nisho. The couple has two sons, including Ahsan Afzal Khan, who made his acting debut in Geo Entertainment's 2023 Ramadan play Heer Da Hero.
Career
Stage and Television
Afzal Khan began his acting career in stage dramas in Islamabad, drawing inspiration from legendary comedians Rangeela and Munawwar Zarif. He first appeared in PTV plays aired in Islamabad and Peshawar before gaining nationwide fame as the janitor "Jan Rambo" in PTV's comedy series Guest House (1991). The character became iconic, and he adopted Jan Rambo as his screen name, inspired by Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo. He also appeared in popular drama series such as Naagin on Geo Kahani.
Cinema
Following his television success, Afzal Khan transitioned to films in 1992 and became a mainstream Lollywood actor. He set a record by signing 26 films in a single day and has acted in over 150 movies, mostly in comedic roles. Khan is celebrated for his dancing skills, often credited with revolutionizing synchronized dance in Pakistani cinema. While he attempted serious roles, his strongest impact remained in comedy.
Director and Producer
In 2014, Khan made his directorial debut with the PTV Home drama Yeh Chahatein, Yeh Ranjishein, starring alongside his wife Sahiba and actor Moammar Rana. He later directed Taqdeer (2018) for A-Plus TV and its revamp Thora Sa Pyar (2021) for SAB TV.
