Biography
Akasa Singh, born on 2 April 1994 and known mononymously as Akasa, is an Indian singer and performer recognized for her vibrant pop sound and dynamic stage presence. From reality television to mainstream Bollywood and independent pop music, she has built a multifaceted career in the Indian entertainment industry.
Early Life and Background
Akasa developed an interest in music at a young age and pursued singing professionally through live performances and reality television platforms. Her early exposure to competitive music shows helped shape her confidence and performance style, preparing her for a career in the spotlight.
Career Beginnings
Akasa began her professional journey working with singer Mika Singh, where she was the only female member in a band consisting of ten male performers. This experience gave her valuable exposure to live performances and the music industry. She later gained wider recognition as a contestant on the reality singing show India’s Raw Star, where she was mentored by Himesh Reshammiya. During the show, he promised her a break in Bollywood—a promise that materialized soon after.
Her Bollywood debut came with the song “Kheech Meri Photo” from the 2016 Hindi film Sanam Teri Kasam, marking an important milestone in her career.
Rise as a Pop Artist
Following her film debut, Akasa was signed by Sony Music India, which helped her transition into the independent pop music space. Her debut pop single, “Thug Ranjha”, released in May 2018, proved to be her breakthrough. The song gained massive popularity, becoming one of the most viewed Indian music videos globally on YouTube and firmly establishing her as a pop sensation.
Akasa has also collaborated internationally, releasing a duet titled “Vente Pa’ Ca” with global pop icon Ricky Martin in 2017. In addition, she gained attention for creative mashups and covers, including a fusion of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” with Badshah’s “Mercy”, and a cover version of “Zara Zara” from Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
Reality Television and Hosting
Akasa expanded her on-screen presence by participating in Amazon Prime Video’s music reality show The Remix, where she collaborated with DJ Skip. She later made her television hosting debut with Secret Side on MTV Beats, showcasing her versatility beyond singing.
In 2021, she reached a broader audience by participating in Bigg Boss 15, which further increased her popularity and visibility among mainstream viewers.
