Biography
Alagappan N is an Indian cinematographer and filmmaker who has worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. Born on 30 November 1957 in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, he trained in cinematography at the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute in Chennai.
He began his professional career in television, working with Doordarshan centres in Jalandhar, Thiruvananthapuram and Agartala. He made his feature-film cinematography debut with Sammaanam (1997) and later worked with several leading Malayalam filmmakers.
His notable cinematography credits include Agnisakshi (1999), Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum (1999), Soothradharan (2001), Nandanam (2002), Manassinakkare (2003), Kaazhcha (2004), Achuvinte Amma (2005), Chandrolsavam (2005), Chanthupottu (2005), Rasathanthram (2006), Ore Kadal (2007), Chotta Mumbai (2007), Photographer (2007), Ozhimuri (2012), Drama (2018) and Ganagandharvan (2019).
Alagappan has received several honours for his cinematography, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematography for Agnisakshi. He has also received Film Critics Association and other industry awards for films including Nandanam, Kaazhcha, Rasathanthram and Ore Kadal.
He made his directorial debut with the Malayalam romantic film ** Pattam Pole (2013)**. He has also worked in Tamil cinema and other Indian-language productions, while continuing his career as a cinematographer.
