Alan Caso
Biography
Alan Caso is an American cinematographer and director of photography, born on December 6, 1951. He developed an early interest in photography and visual composition through his father, a photographer and graphic artist, before studying painting and later film at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Caso began working in the film industry as a gaffer and camera operator before becoming a cinematographer. His first feature as director of photography was 84 Charlie MoPic (1989). He later built an extensive career in film and television.
He is particularly known for his acclaimed cinematography on Six Feet Under, which earned him two Primetime Emmy nominations. His other notable projects include George Wallace, Into the West, Frankenstein, Comanche Moon, Dexter, The Americans, Hawaii Five-0, Heroes Reborn, American Gothic, Still Star-Crossed, and For the People.
Caso won an ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for George Wallace and received the ASC Career Achievement Award in Television in 2018.
With a career spanning several decades, Alan Caso has become respected for his naturalistic lighting, strong compositions, and distinctive visual storytelling across television and film.
