Biography
Alan Metter was an American film and television director known for his work in comedy and family entertainment. He became particularly recognized for directing films featuring popular comedians and young performers during the 1980s and 1990s.
Career
Metter began his career directing television productions before moving into feature films. His early directing work included the comedy Back to School (1986), starring Rodney Dangerfield, Keith Gordon, and Sally Kellerman. The film became a major commercial success and remains one of Dangerfield's best-known movies.
He later directed The Master (1984), The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987), and The Night Before (1988), demonstrating his interest in broad comedy and youth-oriented entertainment.
Metter also directed Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (1988), continuing the popular comedy franchise. His other film work included Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael (1990), starring Winona Ryder and Jeff Daniels, and The Cooler (2003).
