Amelia Kerr

Biography

Amelia Charlotte Kerr, born on October 13, 2000, in Wellington, New Zealand, is a dynamic all-rounder who represents New Zealand and Wellington.

Kerr comes from a cricketing family; her father Robbie and mother Jo both played domestic cricket for Wellington, her sister Jess also plays for New Zealand and Wellington, and her grandfather Bruce Murray played Test cricket for New Zealand.

Amelia Kerr made her international debut for New Zealand in a Women's One Day International (WODI) against Pakistan on November 9, 2016. Her Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) debut followed on November 21, 2016, also against Pakistan.

A right-handed batter and right-arm leg-break bowler, Kerr quickly established herself as a key player for the White Ferns. In June 2018, she etched her name in cricketing history by scoring an unbeaten 232 against Ireland in a WODI, becoming the youngest cricketer, male or female, to score a double century in One Day International cricket and setting the record for the highest individual score in a women's ODI. In the same match, she also took 5 wickets for 17 runs, achieving a rare double of a double century and a five-wicket haul in an ODI.

Kerr has represented New Zealand in multiple ICC Women's Cricket World Cups and ICC Women's T20 World Cups. She was a member of the New Zealand team that won the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, she was named the player of the tournament as New Zealand won the trophy for the first time.

In addition to her international career, Kerr has played in various domestic and franchise leagues, including the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) for Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, The Hundred for London Spirit and Manchester Originals, and the Women's Premier League (WPL) for Mumbai Indians, with whom she won the title in 2023 and 2025.

Individual accolades for Amelia Kerr include the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year (Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award) and the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2022. She was also named the ANZ International Women's ODI Player of the Year in 2019 and 2022, and the ANZ International T20 Women's Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season. In 2024, she was named the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year. As of March 2025, she is ranked among the top all-rounders in women's cricket by the ICC.
