Anand Gandhi

Biography

One of the most acclaimed filmmakers of India, Anand Gandhi is best known for the National Award-winning movie Ship of Theseus (2013). He began his career in 2000 with Television: Anand wrote the dialogues for Kyun Ki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, one of the most successful TV shows in India. 

 

He also wrote the screenplay for the popular TV show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. He later shifted his focus toward theatre and wrote plays such as Sugandhi, Kshanotsav, Na, and Janashtaru.

In 2003, he directed a 30-minute film titled Right Here, Right Now which received critical acclaim. A decade later, he directed his first feature film Ship of Theseus starring Aida El-Kashef, Neeraj Kabi, and Sohum Shah. 

 

The drama film earned national and international critical acclaim with one review terming it to be one of the most significant films to have ever come out of India. Along with several international accolades, the movie won the Best Feature Film Award at the 61s National Film Awards. 

 

In 2017, he co-directed the documentary An Insignificant Man based on the anti-corruption protests in India and the formation and rise of the Aam Aadmi Party helmed by Arvind Kejriwal. His 2018 releases include Tumbbad and Helicopter Ela.
