Anandakuttan
Biography
Anandakuttan (1954/1955–14 February 2016) was an Indian cinematographer who worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. He was regarded as one of the prominent cinematographers of his generation and was associated with more than 150 films.
He began his career as an assistant to cinematographer Ramachandra Babu before becoming an independent cinematographer. His early work helped establish him as a sought-after technician in Malayalam films.
Some of his notable cinematography credits include His Highness Abdullah (1990), Bharatham (1991), Kamaladalam (1992), Sadayam (1992), Manichitrathazhu (1993), Akashadoothu (1993), Hitler (1996), Punjabi House (1998), Aniyathipraavu (1997), Chronic Bachelor (2003) and Pappayude Swantham Appoos (1992). He also worked in Tamil cinema on films such as Poovizhi Vasalile, Varusham 16, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Kannukkul Nilavu.
Among his later Malayalam credits were Nadiya Kollappetta Rathri, Detective, Parthan Kanda Paralokam, Moz & Cat, Vellathooval, Thaskara Lahala, Doctor Innocentanu and Hide N' Seek. IMDb lists him with more than 180 cinematography credits.
Anandakuttan died in Kochi on 14 February 2016, aged 61. He is remembered for his extensive contribution to Malayalam cinema and for the visual work he brought to several popular films of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
