Biography

Anna Palk (October 23, 1941 – July 1, 1990) was an English actress known for her work in British film, television, and theatre. Born in Looe, Cornwall, England, she was educated at Rise Hall Convent in Yorkshire and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She began her professional stage career in 1961 and gained experience with repertory companies in Bristol, Leatherhead, Derby, Newcastle, and Leeds.

Palk began appearing in films during the 1960s. Her credits included Play It Cool (1962), The Earth Dies Screaming (1964), The Skull (1965), Fahrenheit 451 (1966), and The Frozen Dead (1966). She also maintained a successful television career, appearing in series such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Main Chance, The Persuaders!, Jason King, and The Protectors.

One of her notable film roles came in Michael Winner's The Nightcomers (1971), a psychological horror prequel to Henry James's The Turn of the Screw. Palk played the New Governess, appearing alongside Marlon Brando, Stephanie Beacham, Thora Hird, and Harry Andrews.

Her best-known television role was Sarah Courtney in The Main Chance, in which she appeared in 21 episodes between 1969 and 1972. She continued working in television during the 1970s and early 1980s, with later appearances including The New Avengers, Bognor, and Storyboard.

Palk was also active on stage, appearing in productions such as Present Laughter, The School for Scandal, Butley, and Sexual Perversity in Chicago. She was married to stockbroker Derek Brierley and had a son.

Anna Palk died in London on July 1, 1990, at the age of 48, after suffering from cancer. She is remembered for her work in British cinema and television, particularly The Main Chance, The Earth Dies Screaming, Fahrenheit 451, and The Nightcomers.
