Anna Rose Holmer
Biography
Anna Rose Holmer is an American film director, writer, producer, and cinematographer. She graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2007, where she studied film with a concentration in cinematography. She began her career working in the camera department before moving into directing and producing.
Holmer made her feature directorial debut with The Fits (2015), a critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and later screened at Sundance. The film earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Someone to Watch.
She later directed an episode of Netflix's supernatural mystery series The OA in 2019, specifically the episode “Nina Azarova.” She also served as a co-producer on the episode.
In 2022, Holmer co-directed God's Creatures with Saela Davis. The film, starring Emily Watson, Paul Mescal, and Aisling Franciosi, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
Her other work includes the documentary Twelve Ways to Sunday (2010), the music video for James Blake's “My Willing Heart”, and production work on films such as Ballet 422 and Salero.
