Anya Adams
Biography
Anya Adams is an award-winning Canadian-American television and film director recognized for her vibrant storytelling and sharp comedic vision. Best known for her work on Black-ish, Ginny & Georgia, and The Good Place, Adams has built a strong reputation as one of television’s most dynamic directors.
In 2020, she was honored with the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for her work on GLOW, further cementing her status as a leading talent in the industry. That same year, she made her pilot debut directing Netflix’s hit coming-of-age drama Ginny & Georgia.
Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Adams began her career in the nonprofit sector, traveling the world with the global citizen organization Up With People before shifting her focus to filmmaking. After being accepted into the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Trainee Program, she relocated to Los Angeles and trained on acclaimed television series such as Boomtown and The Practice.
As a DGA member, Adams gained extensive experience working on successful shows including The Mindy Project, CSI: Miami, Community, Scrubs, and The West Wing. In 2016, she directed her first short film, Lemonade Mafia, featuring Marsai Martin and Yvette Nicole Brown. Her breakthrough came soon after with Black-ish in 2017, and she has continued to rise as one of the most sought-after directors in television today.
