Biography

Allirajah Subaskaran (born 2 March 1972), is a Sri Lankan Tamil entrepreneur, film producer, and the founder and chairman of Lycamobile, which launched in 2006 and now operates in 21 countries worldwide with a subscriber base of over 5 billion customers.

 

 His Lyca Productions is based in Chennai, India, and began with its first film Kaththi (2014). It is currently producing the science fiction thriller 2.0, touted to be India's costliest film. 

 

After announcing 2.0 and its budget Lyca Productions is the wealthiest production company in Asia to date. A very successful man who has now stepped into charity work is not going to stop his magnum opus step into the third world.

Allirajah Subaskaran and his mother Gnanambikai Allirajah founded a charity, The Gnanam Foundation, in 2010 in order to provide help for marginalized communities and those who have been abandoned without care during the Sri Lankan Civil War. 

 

It exists to extend funds to promote means of livelihood for those in need of specific projects on an individual, family, or community basis. The Gnanam Foundation is based on the ethos of "teach a person to fish", providing opportunities for people to develop skills to support themselves. 

 

Since 2012, The Gnanam Foundation has partnered up with many other organizations including the British Asian Trust, Children's Hunger Relief, and Muslim Aid to donate to a number of worthy causes. In 2015, The Gnanam Foundation set to construct 150 homes in the Vavuniya District of Sri Lanka.

In October 2011 Lycatel was ranked 1st in the Sunday Times 250 leading mid-market private companies. Allirajah received a gold award for Best Overall Enterprise in 2010 at the Asian Achievers Award ceremony for the impact he has made on the Asian community in the UK.

 

 Lyca Mobile was awarded the best MVNO, winning against Vodafone and O2 taking the lead in 2013. The Asian Voice Political and Public Life awarded Allirajah in 2011 its "International Entrepreneur of the Year' award.

In 2012 the English Asian Business Awards presented Allirajah with the "2011 Power Business of the Year" award, recognizing the growth of the Lycamobile business globally. As well as the "Social Entrepreneur of the Year" award.
