Atanu Mukherjee

Biography

An alumnus of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, India, Atanu Mukherjee is an Indian writer, director, and editor who is noted for his work in Bollywood cinema. 

 

Having started his career as a writer and director for short films, Atanu rose to fame with his short film directorial venture, The Gatekeeper, which was showcased at the South Asian International Film Festival and International Documentary and Short Film Festival, Kerala in 2015, where it won the Best Short Fiction Award. 

 

The film also got a theatrical release at the PVR Directors Rare in 2014. His other notable short film credits include Stray Dogs, which won the Best Short Film in Cinema International Film Festival - 2014 and My House Is Not So Far, a documentary, which was commissioned by Doordarshan.

After his successful stint as a writer and director of short films, he made his debut as an editor in a feature film Monsoon Shootout, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. His other notable film credits as an editor include Unfreedom and Shortcut Safari.

 

 His 2017 release includes Rukh, a drama mystery film starring Manoj Bajpayee, Smita Tambe, Adarsh Gourav, and Kumud Mishra. The movie is his maiden feature film directorial venture.
