Atluri Purnachandra Rao

Biography

One of the most prominent film producers in Bollywood and Tollywood during the 1970s and the 1980s, Poornachandra Rao Atluri was an Indian film producer and communist leader from Andhra Pradesh. 

 

Heavily influenced by the leftist ideology, Atluri was a member of the United Communist Party and he participated in the rationalist movement, which was led by Gora, an eminent Indian social reformer and an author of several books on atheism.

Apart from his political career, Poornachandra is remembered for his several film productions. Some of his notable film ventures include Devudu Chesina Pelli (1974), Ek Hi Bhool (1981), Andhaa Kaanoon (1983), Chaalbaaz (1989), Aaplee Maanse (1993), Venky (2004), and Avunanna Kadanna (2005). The veteran producer passed away on 29 October 2017 in Hyderabad after he succumbed to liver cancer.
