Ato Essandoh, born 29 July 1972 in Schenectady, New York, USA, is an American actor and producer of Ghanaian heritage. He graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in chemical engineering before pursuing acting and studying at the Acting Studio in New York City.
He began his professional acting career with a small role in Third Watch (2001) and later appeared in films including Garden State (2004), Hitch (2005), Blood Diamond (2006), and Django Unchained (2012).
Essandoh became widely recognized for television roles such as Dr. Matthew Freeman in Copper, Alfredo Llamosa in Elementary, Dr. Isidore Latham in Chicago Med, and Vernon Elliot in Netflix's science-fiction series Altered Carbon.
He also starred as Kwesi Weisberg-Abban in Away and as Stuart Hayford, the U.S. ambassador's deputy chief of mission, in Netflix's political drama The Diplomat.
