Biography

Ayo Edebiri is an American actress, comedian, writer, producer, and voice artist known for her work in television, film, and animation. She was born on 3 October 1995 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She studied at New York University, where she initially pursued a career in teaching before focusing on comedy and entertainment.

Edebiri began gaining recognition as a stand-up comedian and television writer. She worked as a writer on the animated series Big Mouth, later taking over the voice role of Missy Foreman-Greenwald. Her work as a writer also included projects such as What We Do in the Shadows and Dickinson.

Her major breakthrough came with the FX comedy-drama series The Bear (2022–present), in which she portrays Sydney Adamu, an ambitious and talented young chef who joins Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto at The Beef. Her performance received widespread critical acclaim and earned her several major awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Edebiri has also established herself as a prominent film actress. Her notable film credits include Theater Camp (2023), Bottoms (2023), The Sweet East (2023), Theater Camp, Inside Out 2 (2024), and After the Hunt (2025). She provided the voice of Envy in Pixar's Inside Out 2.
