Bala Kumar

Biography

Bala Kumar, professionally known as Bala, is an Indian actor and director who has worked mainly in Malayalam and Tamil cinema, with appearances in Telugu films as well. Born on 19 December 1982 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, he comes from a family with connections to the film industry. His father, Jeyakumar, was a documentary filmmaker, while his brother is filmmaker Siva.

Acting Career

Bala began his acting career with the Telugu film 2 Much in 2002. He subsequently appeared in the Tamil film Anbu (2003), followed by films including Kadhal Kisu Kisu, Amma Appa Chellam and Kalinga.

He made his Malayalam film debut with Kalabham, which helped him establish a career in Malayalam cinema. He subsequently appeared in several notable films, including Big B (2007), Sound of Boot (2008), Puthiya Mukham (2009), Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded (2009), Hero (2012), Veeram (2014), Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), Pulimurugan (2016), Aanakkallan (2018) and Lucifer (2019).

Directorial Work

Alongside acting, Bala has worked in filmmaking and made his directorial debut with The Hitlist in 2012. He has also been associated with other aspects of film production, including writing, editing, and production.

Television

Bala has also appeared on Malayalam television as a celebrity judge and guest. He has participated in programmes such as Idea Star Singer, Vivel Big Break, Uggram Ujjwalam, Thakarppan Comedy and Star Magic.

Personal Life

Bala was previously married to playback singer Amrutha Suresh, and they have a daughter. He later married Elizabeth Udayan in 2021.
