Having established an elaborate career in the TV industry, Smithard worked in films like The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015). His 2017 release includes Viceroy`s House (2017), a British-Indian historical drama directed by Gurinder Chadha.
In 2019, he was associated with the Historical period drama Downton Abbey. Directed by Michael Engler, the movie stars Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael in prominent roles. His other releases include The Father (2020).
