Bhama Kurup

Biography

Bhama Kurup, professionally known as Bhamaa, is an Indian actress who has predominantly worked in Malayalam and Kannada cinema. Born Rekhitha R. Kurup in Kottayam, Kerala, she entered the entertainment industry in the late 2000s and has appeared in more than 40 films.

Early Life

Bhama studied in schools in Manarcad, Kerala, and later pursued a bachelor's degree in Sociology through correspondence. Before entering films, she worked as a television host on Surya TV and also appeared in a Christian devotional album.

Acting Career

Bhama made her film debut in Nivedyam (2007), directed by A. K. Lohithadas. Her performance brought her early recognition, and she subsequently appeared in films such as Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan, Cycle, One Way Ticket, Ivar Vivahitharayal, Sakudumbam Shyamala, Janapriyan and Sevenes.

She expanded her career beyond Malayalam cinema, appearing in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films. Her Kannada credits include Modala Sala, Shyloo, Auto Raja, Burfi, Appayya, Ambara, Arjuna and Raaga.

Some of her notable Malayalam performances came in D Company (2013), Kadhaveedu (2013), 100 Degree Celsius (2014), Ottamandaram (2014), Maalgudi Days (2016) and Marupadi (2016). She also portrayed Janakiammal, the wife of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, in the biographical film Ramanujan (2014).

Other Work

Bhama has also explored playback singing. She contributed vocals to devotional and film music, including a song in 100 Degree Celsius.

After a break from acting, she returned to Malayalam cinema with Sumathi Valavu (2025), marking her comeback to films.
