Biography
Bobby Krlic is a British composer, music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and artist based in Los Angeles. He is also widely known by his stage name, The Haxan Cloak. Born on December 20, 1985, in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, he began his music career creating experimental electronic and dark ambient music. He released the albums The Haxan Cloak (2011) and Excavation (2013), earning critical recognition for his atmospheric sound.
Krlic later expanded into film and television scoring. One of his breakthroughs came with Ari Aster's horror film Midsommar (2019), for which he created an intense and unsettling score. His work on the film earned him the 2020 Ivor Novello Award for Best Original Score.
He has composed music for numerous films and television projects, including Seven Seconds, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, Reprisal, Snowpiercer, Invasion, Beef, Beau Is Afraid, and Blue Beetle. He also composed the music for the video game Returnal (2021), winning a BAFTA Games Award for Best Music.
For the Amazon Prime Video science-fiction series Paper Girls (2022), Krlic composed the score for all eight episodes. His music combined dark electronic textures, atmospheric synths, and tension-building instrumentation to reflect the show's time-travel story and its themes of youth, danger, and discovery.
As a music producer, Krlic has also collaborated with artists including Björk, Father John Misty, Khalid, Troye Sivan, Goldfrapp, serpentwithfeet, and The Body. His career spans experimental music, film and television scoring, video games, and music production, making him one of the distinctive contemporary composers working across multiple forms of media.
