Biography

Brian Duffield is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and director, born on November 5, 1985, in Pennsylvania, United States. He is known for his work in science fiction, horror, thriller, and dark comedy films.

Career

Duffield began gaining attention as a screenwriter after several of his original scripts were recognized by The Black List, including Your Bridesmaid Is a Bitch. He later received his first major writing assignment for The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015). His other early screenwriting work included Jane Got a Gun (2015) and The Babysitter (2017).

In 2020, Duffield had several notable credits. He wrote Underwater, a science-fiction thriller starring Kristen Stewart, and wrote Love and Monsters. He also made his directorial debut with Spontaneous, a dark coming-of-age comedy that he wrote and produced.

He continued his career as a writer and filmmaker with No One Will Save You (2023), a science-fiction horror film that he wrote, directed, and produced. The film received a Writers Guild of America nomination in 2024.

Duffield also worked as a producer on Cocaine Bear (2023) and Borderline (2025), and contributed writing to the animated series Skull Island.

In 2026, he wrote, directed, and produced Whalefall, a survival thriller based on a story about a diver trapped inside a massive whale. The project further established his interest in combining extreme survival situations with horror and science-fiction elements.
