Biography

Cameron Mitchell (November 4, 1918 – July 6, 1994) was an American actor known for his work in Hollywood films, television, and Westerns. With a career spanning more than five decades, he appeared in notable films such as How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), Love Me or Leave Me (1955), The High Chaparral (1967–1971), and Désirée (1954).

Early Life

Cameron Mitchell was born Cameron McDowell Mitzell on November 4, 1918, in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. He developed an interest in acting while serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. After the war, he pursued a career in theatre and eventually moved into films.

Film Career

Mitchell began his Hollywood career in the 1940s, initially appearing in supporting roles. He became known for playing strong, rugged, and often complex characters.

Mitchell became especially popular through television, where he starred in several successful series. His most famous role was Buck Cannon in the Western series The High Chaparral (1967–1971), which made him a household name.
