Biography
Casey Affleck is an American actor, director, and producer known for his understated performances and emotionally complex portrayals. Respected for his ability to convey vulnerability and inner conflict, he has built a career marked by critically acclaimed roles in independent films and major studio productions.
Born on August 12, 1975, in Falmouth, Massachusetts, Casey Affleck is the younger brother of actor Ben Affleck. He was raised in New England and developed an interest in acting at a young age. Affleck later studied physics, astronomy, and Western philosophy at Columbia University, though he left before completing his degree in order to pursue acting full-time.
Affleck began his career in the 1990s with supporting roles in films such as To Die For and Good Will Hunting. He gained wider recognition in the early 2000s through performances in the Ocean’s trilogy, where he displayed a mix of comedic timing and subtle character work.
His reputation as a serious dramatic actor grew with films like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Gone Baby Gone, and Out of the Furnace, in which he portrayed troubled, morally conflicted characters. Affleck reached the height of critical acclaim with his lead performance in Manchester by the Sea (2016), earning numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor.
In addition to acting, Affleck has worked as a filmmaker, directing projects such as I’m Still Here, a documentary-style film that challenged conventional storytelling and blurred the line between fiction and reality.
