Cati Weinek is an acclaimed South African film producer and co-founder of The Ergo Company, known for her passion for storytelling and her ability to bring powerful, socially resonant projects to life. With a career spanning fiction, documentary, and animation, she has consistently championed creative collaboration and films that reflect the evolving realities of the world.
Career and Contributions
Weinek has produced numerous award-winning films and raised funding for a wide range of projects. Her early work includes Memory Box (2003), a deeply personal initiative that documented the experiences of HIV-positive clients in Soweto before the widespread availability of antiretroviral treatment. She also produced Uranium Road (2009), an influential anti-nuclear documentary that helped shape South Africa’s energy policy.
Her impressive filmography includes Gog’ Helen (2012), Mrs Right Guy (2016), Love By Chance (2017), The Letter Reader (2018), The Tokoloshe (2018), Pou (2021), The Fragile King (2022), and Headspace (2022). In addition, she co-created the groundbreaking Sediba script development programme under the National Film and Video Foundation and produced the 12th season of the Soul City drama series.
