Biography
Kanukuntla Subhash Chandrabose is a celebrated Indian lyricist and singer in Telugu cinema. He made his debut with Taj Mahal (1995) and has since written around 3,600 songs for over 850 films across a career spanning more than 25 years. He achieved global recognition after winning the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for “Naatu Naatu” from RRR (2022). His honors also include a National Award, two Nandi Awards, two Filmfare Awards, and three SIIMA Awards.
Born in Challagariga village in present-day Telangana, Chandrabose grew up as the youngest of four siblings in a teacher’s family. He completed his schooling locally and earned an engineering degree from JNTU Hyderabad. Initially aspiring to be a singer, he later shifted to lyric writing after limited success.
He entered the film industry with director Muppalaneni Siva’s Taj Mahal, with music director M. M. Srilekha guiding him on his first song. On his director’s suggestion, he adopted “Chandrabose” as his professional name, beginning a journey that would make him one of Telugu cinema’s most prolific and acclaimed lyricists.
