Chandran

Biography

Chandramouli, known by his stage name Chandran, was born in 1988 in India. He is an actor working primarily in the Tamil film industry. Before entering the film industry, Chandramouli worked in a consulting job, but his passion for acting led him to quit his stable career and pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Chandramouli initially featured in short films and music videos, gaining experience in front of the camera, which set the foundation for his career in cinema.

Entry into the Film Industry: Chandramouli's big break came when he signed up with the theatre group Inferno Productions. His active involvement with the group helped him hone his acting skills, and he became a regular in their productions. While continuing his work in theatre, Chandramouli was determined to break into the Tamil film industry and began auditioning extensively for film roles.

His persistence paid off when he received a surprise offer to play the lead role in Kayal (2014), a romantic film directed by Prabhu Solomon. This opportunity came after a co-actor informed him that Prabhu Solomon was casting for his upcoming film. Upon submitting his portfolio, Chandramouli was selected for the lead role, which marked the start of his film career.

Breakthrough with Kayal (2014): Kayal was a romantic drama set against the backdrop of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Chandramouli was cast as Aaron, a nomad who travels across India and falls in love with the titular character, played by actress Anandhi. Before filming began, the director requested Chandramouli to lose fifteen kilograms for the role, and he also underwent a training workshop under stunt choreographer Pandian to prepare for the physical demands of the film.

The film's production involved extensive shooting in muddy waters to recreate the conditions post-tsunami, and Chandramouli faced numerous challenges during filming. He suffered from mild fungal infections due to the muddy conditions and found it difficult to concentrate on acting while also dealing with the powerful water jets. Despite these difficulties, he managed to maintain a red-eyed look for significant portions of the film, adding to the emotional intensity of his portrayal.

Kayal opened in December 2014, marking the tenth anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami, and received positive reviews. Chandramouli's performance was particularly praised, with critics noting his ability to handle emotional scenes with ease. Behindwoods.com described him as a "new find" who glided through emotional scenes effortlessly, while Sify.com praised his "truly excellent performance." Rediff.com also highlighted the chemistry between him and Anandhi, calling them the "perfect choice" for the film.

Subsequent Career: Following the success of Kayal, Chandramouli continued to pursue his acting career. His next notable film was Thittam Poattu Thirudura Kootam (2019), a Tamil-language thriller. The film, which was directed by Santhosh P. Jayakumar, also showcased his acting range and further solidified his presence in Tamil cinema.
