Chanté Adams is an American actress born on December 16, 1994, in Detroit, Michigan. She studied at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama before moving to New York to pursue a professional acting career.
Adams made her breakthrough with the 2017 Netflix biographical drama Roxanne Roxanne, in which she portrayed pioneering hip-hop artist Roxanne Shanté. Her performance earned her the Special Jury Prize for Breakthrough Performance at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
She subsequently appeared in films including Monsters and Men (2018), Good Girls Get High (2018), Bad Hair (2020), The Photograph (2020), and Voyagers (2021). She also starred opposite Michael B. Jordan in Denzel Washington's A Journal for Jordan (2021), portraying Dana Canedy.
Adams gained further recognition for playing Maxine "Max" Chapman in the Amazon series A League of Their Own (2022). Her character is a talented Black baseball player who dreams of playing professionally but faces racial and social barriers while pursuing her ambitions.
