Charithra Surya Chandran is a British actress best known for her breakout performance in the Netflix period drama Bridgerton. She was born on January 17, 1997, in Perth, Scotland, to Indian parents from Tamil Nadu, India. After her parents’ separation, Chandran spent part of her childhood in India with her grandparents before returning to the United Kingdom to live in Oxford with her mother.

 

 

Academically gifted, Chandran attended the prestigious Oxford High School and later earned a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) from New College, Oxford. While at university, she actively participated in theatre productions, which ignited her passion for acting and storytelling.

 

 

Career

Charithra Chandran began her acting career in theatre, performing in several plays while studying at Oxford. Her professional screen debut came in 2021, when she starred as Sabina Pleasance in the Amazon Prime series Alex Rider, an adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s popular spy novels. Her performance was praised for its maturity and emotional depth, marking her as a promising new talent.

 

 

Her breakthrough came in 2022, when she was cast as Edwina Sharma in the second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton.
