Charu Shree Roy

Biography

Charu is an Indian film editor who began her career by getting associated with short films as a director and writer. Chasing the Rainbow, a short film, written, directed, and edited by her, won the National Award for the Best Promotional Movie and the Audience Poll at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival. 

 

She also directed and edited the short film, Chinese Whispers, in 2015 which won critical acclaim. In addition to notable shorts, her filmography also includes several successful features across various genres such as Haraamkhor by Shlok Sharma an Indian romantic drama streaming on Netflix India and Disney+Hotstar; Lipstick Under My Burkha, a critically acclaimed, norm-breaking women-centric drama directed by Alankrita Shrivastava one of India's leading contemporary writer-directors as well as Lucknow Central, which was inspired by the real-life prison band. 

 

Charu continues to collaborate with Alankrita some of the recent ones being Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival as well as the Netflix series Bombay Begums that showcases the plight of women in India's contemporary urban society. 

 

She has recently worked on Ankahi Kahaniya, Netflix's anthology series that was released in 2021, and a docu-series titled Breakpoint on the lives of the tennis duo Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi which is co-directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwary and Nitesh Tiwari and released on ZEE5.
