Biography
Chitra (21 May 1965 – 21 August 2021) was an Indian actress who worked predominantly in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Born in Kochi, Kerala, she began her acting career as a child artist and went on to appear in more than 100 films during a career spanning several decades.
She became known for her performances in films such as Aattakalasam (1983), Nokkethadhoorathu Kannum Nattu (1984), Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Amaram (1991), Devasuram (1993), Commissioner (1994) and Aaram Thamburan (1997).
In Amaram (1991), directed by Bharathan, Chitra played Chandrika, alongside Mammootty, Maathu, Murali and Ashokan. The film was written by A.K. Lohithadas and produced by Babu Thiruvalla.
Chitra was also known by the nickname “Nallennai Chithra”, which became popular after she appeared in a widely recognized oil advertisement. She continued acting in Malayalam and Tamil films through the 1990s and 2000s, with her later career featuring numerous supporting and character roles.
She died in Chennai on 21 August 2021, aged 56. Chitra is remembered for her natural performances and her extensive contribution to South Indian cinema.
