Choi Dong Hoon

Biography

Choi Dong-hoon, known professionally as Primary, is a South Korean hip hop musician and record producer, born on January 31, 1983. After rising to fame under the label Amoeba Culture, he founded his label, Paktory Company, in April 2020.

Primary entered the Korean hip hop scene in 2004, collaborating with artists like Dynamic Duo and Garion, and honed his musical skills at the Seoul Jazz Academy. He debuted in 2006 with the album Daily Apartment, in collaboration with Beenzino under the group name P' Skool, adopting a cardboard box mask with a beak to stand out visually.

Throughout his career, Primary has worked with numerous artists on projects such as Back Again, Primary Score, Primary and the Messengers, and 2. He also produced music for top Korean acts like Supreme Team (Supremier), Dynamic Duo (Kill), and MBLAQ (including singles like "I'm Back" and "Smokey Girl").

He gained wider public recognition through his appearance on Infinite Challenge in 2013. That same year, he performed in a sold-out concert with Zion.T and took part in the Infinite Challenge Song Festival, though some of his songs from the event were later flagged for plagiarism. He acknowledged this and credited the original composers, donating proceeds from the disputed track.

After leaving Amoeba Culture in March 2020, Primary launched his label the following month, marking a new chapter in his influential career as a producer and artist in South Korea’s hip hop and R&B scene.
