Chris Thompson
Biography
Chris Thompson was a British film and television producer and assistant director, born on September 12, 1954, in the United Kingdom. He built a long career in the entertainment industry, initially working in assistant-director and production-management roles before becoming a producer.
Thompson worked as a second assistant director on Terry Gilliam's Brazil (1985) and also contributed to major productions such as Full Metal Jacket (1987), A World Apart (1988), and Time Bandits (1981). His early career included numerous assistant-director credits across British film and television.
He later moved into production and became involved with several prominent films and television projects. Among his best-known producing credits was Richard Curtis's romantic comedy Love Actually (2003), on which Thompson served as line producer. He also produced Sahara (2005), starring Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, and Penélope Cruz.
His television producing credits included projects such as Strike Back, Emerald City, The Terror, Brave New World, and The Power. His career demonstrated his versatility across film and television production, from large-scale international projects to acclaimed drama series.
Chris Thompson died in March 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, at the age of 68. The Production Guild of Great Britain paid tribute to him, highlighting his contributions to productions including Love Actually, The Terror, Gulliver's Travels, and Brazil.
