Biography
Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee is an English actor. Before making his foray into acting, he served his country in the Second World War and was posted in Asia and Africa. Christopher was encouraged to take up a career in acting after he returned from war. He soon made his debut in the television series, Kaleidoscope. A year later, Christopher made his feature film debut in Corridor of Mirrors (1948).
However, his breakthrough performance came in the film Moulin Rouge (1952). Christopher is well-known for his performances in Hammer horror films such as The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1958), The Mummy (1959), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960), Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace (1962) and Rasputin, the Mad Monk (1966).
He also appeared in films such as The Wicker Man (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Keeper (1976), Return from Witch Mountain (1978), The Last Unicorn (1982), Mask of Murder (1985), The Return of the Musketeers (1989), Police Academy: Mission to Moscow (1994) and Jinnah (1998).
In 2001, Christopher essayed the role of Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which brought him substantial recognition from the masses. He later appeared in films such as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), and lent his voice to Corpse Bride (2005) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).
His recent appearances have been in the films Burke and Hare (2010), Hugo (2011), and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2011). Apart from acting, Christopher is also a musician, and has released albums such as Revelation, Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross, and Charlemagne: The Omens of Death.
