Biography

Christopher McDonald is an American actor, producer, and director, born on 15 February 1955 in New York City, New York. He has built a career spanning more than four decades, appearing in more than 100 films as well as numerous television productions and stage performances.

Early Life and Career

McDonald was raised in New York and initially studied at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He later trained under acclaimed acting teacher Stella Adler and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His early professional work included theatre before he moved into television and film.

His screen career began in the early 1980s, with appearances in films including Grease 2 (1982), Breakin' (1984), and Where the Boys Are '84 (1984). He gradually became recognized for playing strong supporting characters, including villains and morally complicated figures.

Breakthrough and Film Career

McDonald gained major recognition with Thelma & Louise (1991), followed by his portrayal of Jack Barry in Robert Redford's Quiz Show (1994). He became especially popular for his performance as Shooter McGavin in the comedy Happy Gilmore (1996), one of his most recognizable roles.

His other notable film credits include Grumpy Old Men (1993), Flubber (1997), Leave It to Beaver (1997), Requiem for a Dream (2000), The Faculty (1998), The Perfect Storm (2000), The Iron Giant (1999), Broken Flowers (2005), and The House Bunny (2008).
