Civan Canova

Biography

Civan Canova (28 June 1955 – 20 August 2022) was a Turkish actor, playwright, theatre director, and artist. Born in Ankara, he was the son of theatre director Mahir Canova and began his acting career as a child before making his film debut in Yılmaz Güney’s Arkadaş (1974). He later graduated from the Ankara State Conservatory and joined the Turkish State Theatres.

 

Canova became known for his work in both cinema and television, appearing in productions such as Home Coming (Eve Dönüş, 2006), What Is Fatmagül's Fault? (2010–2012), Karadayı (2012–2013), Broken Pieces (Paramparça, 2014–2017), and Netflix’s The Gift (Atiye, 2019–2021), where he played Mustafa.

 

Alongside acting, Canova was an accomplished playwright. His works included Kıyamet Sularında, Sokağa Çıkma Yasağı, Ful Yaprakları, Evaristo, and Üstat Harpagon’a Saygı ve Destek Gecesi. He received several awards for his writing and acting, including the Best Supporting Actor award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for Home Coming.

 

Canova died in Istanbul on 20 August 2022 at the age of 67 after a long battle with lung cancer.
