Damla Sönmez

Biography

Damla Sönmez was born on 3 May 1987 in Istanbul, Turkey. She is an award-winning Turkish actress and voice artist known for her work in film, television, and theatre. She studied theatre at the Sorbonne University in Paris and later completed her theatre education at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. She also received training in violin and piano and studied acting at the Black Nexxus Academy in New York.

 

Sönmez made her film debut with Bornova Bornova (2009), earning the Best Supporting Actress award at the Golden Orange Film Festival for her performance. She later appeared in films such as Mahpeyker (2010), Last Stop: Kurtuluş (2012), Across the Sea (Deniz Seviyesi, 2014), Taksim Hold'em (2017), and Sibel (2018). Her performance in Sibel brought her further critical recognition.

 

On television, she became known for roles in Bir Aşk Hikayesi, Güllerin Savaşı, Çukur, Alev Alev, Aziz, and Maviye Sürgün. She also portrayed Ana in Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020–2022), helping introduce her work to a wider international audience.

 

Throughout her career, Sönmez has received numerous acting awards, including Best Actress honors for Deniz Seviyesi and Sibel, establishing her as one of the respected actresses of contemporary Turkish cinema and television.
