Biography

Dan Gregor is an American writer, director, producer, comedian, and actor known for his work in television and film. He is particularly recognized for How I Met Your Mother, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Most Likely to Murder, Dolittle, and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Early Life and Education

Dan Gregor was born on February 18 in Long Island, New York, and studied at New York University. While at NYU, he became a founding member of the comedy group Hammerkatz, which helped launch his career in sketch comedy and writing. He later performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

Career

Gregor began working in comedy and entertainment before moving into television writing and production. One of his major career opportunities came with the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where he worked as a writer, story editor, executive story editor, and co-producer. He contributed to several episodes during the show's later seasons.

He subsequently became closely associated with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, working as a writer, producer, and director. He also made appearances in the series as Dr. Roth.

Film Career

Gregor made his feature directorial debut with Most Likely to Murder (2018), a comedy-mystery starring Adam Pally, Rachel Bloom, and Vincent Kartheiser. Gregor wrote, directed, and served as executive producer on the film.

He later co-wrote Dolittle (2020), starring Robert Downey Jr. as the famous doctor who can communicate with animals. He also co-wrote and co-produced Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), which received considerable attention for its combination of animation, comedy, and live-action filmmaking.

Gregor continued his screenwriting work with The Naked Gun (2025), for which he received writing and co-producing credits.

Dan Gregor married actress, comedian, writer, and producer Rachel Bloom in 2015. The couple has one daughter.
