Darby Stanchfield was born on 29 April 1971 in Kodiak, Alaska, USA. She is an American actress and director who earned an MFA from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
Stanchfield gained recognition through recurring roles in television series such as Jericho, Mad Men, and NCIS. Her breakthrough came with ABC's political drama Scandal (2012–2018), where she played Abby Whelan, a key member of Olivia Pope's team, throughout all seven seasons.
She later starred as Nina Locke, the mother of three siblings who move to the mysterious Keyhouse, in Netflix's supernatural series Locke & Key (2020–2022). She appeared in all three seasons of the show.
Her film credits include Waitress (2007), Carnage Park (2016), The Rendezvous (2016), Justine (2019), Stargirl (2020), Mosquito (2022), and Willie and Me (2023). She has also directed episodes of Scandal, including the web series Scandal: Gladiator Wanted.
