Dash Mihok

Biography

Dash Mihok is an American actor and director known for his work in film and television. He is best known for playing Brendan “Bunchy” Donovan in the Showtime drama series Ray Donovan, as well as for appearances in Romeo + Juliet, The Thin Red Line, The Day After Tomorrow, I Am Legend, and Silver Linings Playbook.

Early Life

Dashiell Raymond Mihok was born on May 24, 1974, in New York City. He grew up in Greenwich Village in an artistic family; his parents, Andrea Mihok and Raymond Thorne, were involved in theatre. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and later the Professional Children's School in Manhattan.

As a teenager, Mihok became involved with CityKids Repertory and appeared in the television production CityKids, which also featured Jim Henson's Muppets.

Acting Career

Mihok began appearing in television productions during the early 1990s, with guest roles in shows such as New York Undercover, NYPD Blue, and Law & Order. His early film work included Black Is White, Sleepers, and Foxfire.

His breakthrough came in Romeo + Juliet (1996), Baz Luhrmann's modern adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy, in which Mihok played Benvolio alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.

Film Career

Mihok subsequently appeared in a variety of major films. He played Private First Class Doll in Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (1998) and later appeared in The Perfect Storm (2000), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), I Am Legend (2007), and Silver Linings Playbook (2012).

His other notable film roles include Detective Martin Soap in Punisher: War Zone (2008) and Mr. Frying Pan in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005).

Ray Donovan

Mihok achieved his greatest television recognition as Brendan “Bunchy” Donovan in Showtime's Ray Donovan. He appeared throughout the series from 2013 to 2020, portraying Ray Donovan's troubled younger brother. The role allowed him to explore more dramatic and emotionally complex material.

Directing and Other Work

Mihok has also worked behind the camera. He directed short films including That Guy and Abby, the latter starring his sister Gwen Mihok. He has additionally worked as a musician and photographer.

Awards and Recognition

Mihok and the ensemble cast of The Thin Red Line received a Satellite Award for Outstanding Motion Picture Ensemble in 1999. He also received the Shining Star Award from the Tourette Association of America in recognition of his advocacy and public awareness work.
