Biography
Daveed Diggs is an American actor, rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and writer, born on January 24, 1982, in Oakland, California. He graduated from Brown University in 2004 with a degree in theater arts and later became the vocalist of the experimental hip-hop group Clipping.
Diggs achieved his breakthrough in 2015 when he originated the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed musical Hamilton. His performance earned him both a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and a Grammy Award as part of the musical’s original cast recording.
He subsequently established himself in film and television, appearing in projects such as The Get Down, Black-ish, Wonder, Blindspotting, and Snowpiercer. He co-wrote, co-produced, and starred in Blindspotting (2018), playing Collin, a man attempting to complete his probation while confronting the rapid changes taking place in his Oakland neighborhood. He later co-created and executive produced the television adaptation of Blindspotting.
Diggs has also become a prominent voice actor, portraying Sebastian in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (2023) and lending his voice to films including Ferdinand, Soul, DC League of Super-Pets, and Trolls Band Together.
His television credits include The Good Lord Bird, Snowpiercer, The Crossover, and The Boys. In 2026, he appeared in The Boys as Oh Father and received an Emmy nomination for the original song “Raise Him Up,” which he co-wrote with composer Christopher Lennertz.
