Biography
David Fleming is an American film and television composer known for his atmospheric and contemporary scores. Born in New York City, he began his career writing music for commercials and creating ringtones before moving into film and television composition. He studied at the New York College of Music and has worked with Remote Control Productions.
Fleming gained wider recognition through his work on the BBC documentary series Blue Planet II, collaborating with Hans Zimmer. He subsequently worked with Zimmer on projects including Dune, Hillbilly Elegy, and Top Gun: Maverick.
He later co-composed the music for HBO's The Last of Us with Gustavo Santaolalla. Fleming also created the score for Amazon Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024), contributing music that combines tension, atmosphere, and emotional depth to the spy drama.
His other notable scoring work includes Hillbilly Elegy, Damsel, and the Disney documentary Jim Henson Idea Man. Through his work across film, television, documentaries, and large-scale productions, Fleming has established himself as a versatile composer with a distinctive cinematic approach.
