David Foster (1944–2020) was an American film producer known for his work in Hollywood, particularly on action, crime, and thriller films. He was born on October 29, 1944, in Richmond, Indiana, and developed a long career in film production.
Foster began working in the film industry in the 1970s and became involved with several major Hollywood productions. He was a producer of The Getaway, directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw. The film follows Doc McCoy, a recently released prisoner who becomes involved in a dangerous racetrack robbery.
He later produced a range of successful films, including The Thing (1982), Short Circuit (1986), The Omen (1976), and Mulholland Falls (1996). His work covered genres ranging from science fiction and horror to crime and action.
Foster was also involved in the development and production of films connected with major Hollywood studios and worked with prominent directors and performers throughout his career. His producing credits demonstrate his versatility and long-standing contribution to American commercial cinema.
