Biography

David, born on November 2, 1972, grew up on Long Island, New York, where his early interest in storytelling and visual media began to take shape. After completing high school, he attended Harvard College, graduating in 1994. His passion for filmmaking deepened during his junior year abroad in Japan, where he joined the Kyoto University Film Club and gained hands-on experience in film production and international cinematic perspectives.

 

 

Following his undergraduate studies, David pursued formal training in filmmaking and enrolled at the University of Southern California’s prestigious School of Cinematic Arts. He completed his graduate studies in 2000, showcasing his talent through his thesis film Bean Cake (2002).

 

 

Bean Cake quickly garnered international attention, earning awards at several major film festivals. The film’s most notable accolade came in 2001, when it won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival—one of the highest honors available to a short filmmaker. This achievement placed David among an elite group of emerging directors recognized for exceptional storytelling and cinematic craft.
