Biography

Debbie Wiseman OBE (born May 10, 1963, in London, England) is one of Britain’s most distinguished and prolific composers for film, television, and the concert hall. Known for her lyrical and emotionally resonant musical style, she has also established a career as a conductor and a radio/television presenter.

Biography and Education

Wiseman's musical journey began early, and she was educated at the Trinity College of Music Junior Department before continuing her studies in piano and composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She is now a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music. Her commitment to music and the film industry has been officially recognized: she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2004 for services to the film industry, and later promoted to Officer of the same Order (OBE) in 2018 for music services.

Career and Notable Works

Wiseman has composed music for over 200 film and television productions, demonstrating remarkable versatility across genres from historical drama to comedy.

Major Film Scores include:

Wilde (1997), for which her score was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for Best Original Film Score.

Tom and Viv (1994).

Tom's Midnight Garden.

Arsène Lupin, which won an award for Best Score for a Foreign Language Film.

The acclaimed Tudor drama Wolf Hall won an RTS Award for Best Composer.

Beyond the screen, Wiseman's album of music inspired by Oscar Wilde's fairy stories, Wilde Stories, was nominated for a Grammy Award. She has also written significant pieces for public and royal occasions, including work for Her Late Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and a piece for the Coronation of The King.

She is also the Composer in Residence at a popular classical music station and frequently appears in concert halls conducting her film scores.
